Doubt shows up even in people the Bible calls faithful. Thomas needed to see. A desperate father asked Jesus to help his unbelief in the very same breath he said he believed. Scripture doesn't shame doubt; it makes room for it. Here are eight King James verses for a faith that's struggling right now.

The verses

1. Mark 9:24 (KJV)

"And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief."

Belief and doubt, in the same sentence, spoken honestly to Jesus. That's still a real prayer.

2. John 20:27 (KJV)

"Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing."

Jesus didn't turn Thomas away for doubting. He met him in it.

3. Matthew 14:31 (KJV)

"And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?"

Even Peter, walking on water, started to sink in doubt. Jesus' hand was already there.

4. James 1:6 (KJV)

"But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed."

A wavering faith is still invited to ask. James doesn't say wait until you're certain.

5. Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)

"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

Coming to God at all, even with questions, is itself an act of faith.

6. Romans 10:17 (KJV)

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

When faith feels thin, this verse points to a simple, repeatable source: keep listening to His word.

7. Psalm 13:5-6 (KJV)

"But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me."

This verse follows two verses of raw questions to God. Doubt and trust can sit right next to each other.

8. 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV)

"(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)"

A short reminder that faith was never meant to depend on seeing everything first.

A prayer for a struggling faith

Lord Jesus, I believe, but I need help with the parts of me that don't. Meet me in my questions the way You met Thomas and the father in Mark 9. Build my faith through Your word, one day at a time. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Putting it into practice

  • Say Mark 9:24 out loud as your own honest prayer this week.

  • Read one chapter of Scripture a day; let faith grow through hearing, not pressure.

  • Talk to a trusted pastor or friend about your doubts instead of carrying them alone.
