A new job, a move, a relationship, a school: big decisions can feel heavy. The Bible promises that God gives wisdom to those who ask, and it offers practical advice for choosing well. Here are eight King James verses for the crossroads.
The verses
1. James 1:5 (KJV)
"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."
Wisdom is only a prayer away. God gives it generously and without scolding.
2. Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Trust God more than your own understanding, and He will direct your paths.
3. Psalm 32:8 (KJV)
"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye."
God doesn't just point the way. He promises to teach and guide you personally.
4. Isaiah 30:21 (KJV)
"And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left."
Sometimes guidance comes as a quiet sense: this is the way, walk in it.
5. Proverbs 16:9 (KJV)
"A man's heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps."
Make your plans, then hold them loosely. God directs your steps.
6. Proverbs 11:14 (KJV)
"Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety."
Don't decide alone. Wise counsel brings safety.
7. Proverbs 15:22 (KJV)
"Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established."
Plans succeed with advice. Talk to two or three trusted people.
8. Psalm 37:23 (KJV)
"The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way."
God cares about each step, not just the destination.
A prayer for guidance
Lord, I have a big decision to make and I don't know which way to go. You promise wisdom to those who ask, so I'm asking. Make my path clear, one step at a time. Amen.
Putting it into practice
Write down each option, then pray over each one.
Ask two or three wise people for their honest advice.
Imagine each choice a year from now. Which one brings more peace?
