Loneliness can happen in an empty apartment or in a crowded room. Scripture speaks directly to people who feel unseen, and the message is the same again and again: God is with you. Here are eight verses from the King James Version to hold on to.
The verses
1. Hebrews 13:5 (KJV)
"I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."
This is one of the Bible's strongest promises: God will never leave you or forsake you.
2. Deuteronomy 31:6 (KJV)
"Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."
God doesn't just watch from a distance. He goes with you.
3. Matthew 28:20 (KJV)
"Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world."
Jesus' final promise to His friends covers every day, including this lonely one.
4. Psalm 139:9-10 (KJV)
"If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me."
There's no place so far or so quiet that God's hand can't reach you.
5. John 14:18 (KJV)
"I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you."
Jesus promised not to leave His people comfortless. He comes to the lonely.
6. Psalm 68:6 (KJV)
"God setteth the solitary in families."
God places lonely people among others. Pray for your people, and look for them.
7. Psalm 25:16 (KJV)
"Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted."
It's okay to tell God plainly, "I feel alone." The psalmist did.
8. Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)
"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
God's presence doesn't depend on how many people are around you.
A prayer for loneliness
Lord, I feel alone today. Thank you for your promise that you will never leave me or forsake me. Be close to me in the quiet, and let me feel your presence in this room. Amen.
