Job interviews can make anyone nervous. You've prepared your answers, ironed your shirt, and now you're waiting. Before you walk in, take two minutes to pray. Here's a short prayer and eight King James verses to steady your heart.

The verses

1. Proverbs 16:3 (KJV)

"Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established."

Commit the interview to God. Your job is to show up and do your best; the outcome is in His hands.

2. Joshua 1:9 (KJV)

"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."

God is with you in the waiting room, the interview, and the drive home.

3. Philippians 4:13 (KJV)

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

Confidence doesn't mean knowing every answer. It means trusting God's strength with your honest best.

4. Psalm 90:17 (KJV)

"And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it."

Ask God to bless the work of your hands, including this new opportunity.

5. Colossians 3:23-24 (KJV)

"And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ."

Whether or not you get the job, working "heartily, as to the Lord" is already a win.

6. Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."

You don't have to see where this leads. Trust God to direct your path.

7. Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."

Nerves are normal. God promises to strengthen, help and hold you up.

8. 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

God gave you a sound mind. Take a slow breath and trust your preparation.

A prayer for your interview

Lord, I'm nervous about this interview. Calm my heart and clear my mind. Help me speak honestly, listen well, and show who I really am. I trust you with the outcome. Amen.

Putting it into practice

  • Pray the prayer above in your car or a quiet hallway before you go in.

  • Be kind to everyone you meet, from the receptionist to the manager.

  • Afterward, thank God for the opportunity, whatever the result.
