Motherhood is full of love and full of exhaustion. Between lunches, laundry, worry and bedtime, there's rarely time for long prayers. These five short prayers are written for real mom days, each paired with a verse from the King James Version.
When you're running on empty
"He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young." (Isaiah 40:11, KJV)
Lord, I'm tired in ways sleep doesn't fix. You gently lead those who care for little ones. Lead me gently today. Give me enough strength for the next hour, and enough grace for myself when I fall short. Amen.
HEADING: When you feel you're not enough
"My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9, KJV)
Father, I keep measuring myself against other moms and coming up short. Remind me that your grace is enough, and your strength shows up in my weakness. Help me love my children well today, imperfectly and faithfully. Amen.
When a child is sick
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7, KJV)
God, my child is sick and my heart is anxious. I bring you my fears with thanks for this precious little life. Give wisdom to the doctors, comfort to my child, and your peace to me. Amen.
When patience runs thin
"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." (Galatians 6:9, KJV)
Lord, I've said the same thing a hundred times today. Keep me from growing weary in doing good. Give me patience, a gentle voice, and a sense of humor. Amen.
When you're thankful
"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward." (Psalm 127:3, KJV)
Father, thank you for my children. They are a gift from you, even on hard days. Help me notice the small joys: the laughter, the hugs, the bedtime questions. Amen.
You don't need an hour of quiet to pray. A sentence whispered while the kettle boils still reaches God. Save this page and come back on the days you need it.
